Dan K. Lewis, 79, of Riverton, Wyoming, and Spearfish, South Dakota, stepped into eternity on July 26, 2026, surrounded by family.

Dan, the third of four children, was born on April 9, 1947, to L.K. and Mickey Lewis. He graduated from Riverton High School in 1965 and went on to earn degrees from Casper College, the University of Denver, and Purdue University.

Dan married Janie Forsha on August 29, 1970, in Buffalo, Wyoming. Together, Dan and Janie eventually settled in Riverton, where they raised their two daughters, Erika and Misty, after living in Douglas and Dubois.

Dan enjoyed a 30-year career in banking before changing paths and becoming a financial planner. After retiring, Dan and Janie moved to South Dakota to chase their children and grandchildren, where they made many memories together.

Dan loved to travel, hunt, fish, take long drives with the windows down, and enjoy coffee and good conversation with his friends. He loved his church family and he loved to be surrounded by people as much as possible, whether family or friends.

Dan is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janie; their daughters, Erika (Rob) Carter and Misty (Dan) Hodgs; two granddaughters, Danye (Mat) Pagan and Caycee (Zeke) Carter; one grandson, Ashar; and his great-granddaughter, Rory. He is also survived by his sister, Sara McKee; brothers, Jack (Betty) Lewis and Jerry (Jan) Lewis; and their families.

A memorial service celebrating Dan’s life will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Spearfish on July 29, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. At Dan’s request, his remains will be cremated so there will be no graveside service. But if there were a headstone, it would read, “He was a turd, but Janie loved him.”

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Spearfish or Trinity Lutheran Church in Riverton.
