Obituary

Donald James "Jim" Hazledine, Sr., 88, died March 29, 2011, at David M Dorsett Regional Senior Care after a long battle with cancer.

Born November 25, 1922 in Lead, SD he grew up and lived in Spearfish SD. He graduated for Spearfish High School 1940. He married Alta Linnea Felt, January 7, 1943. During WWII, he entering the European theater at Omaha beach and served in Europe for the US Army Air Corp as a Cryptographic Intelligence specialist. Jim earned his Pharmacy degree from South Dakota State University in 1950. Returning to Spearfish, he practiced pharmacy with his father Earl. Jim owned Hazledine Drug until he retired in 1975. After Alta's death in 1997, he married Mildred Schloredt June 28,1998. To quote Jim from his memoir tapes, "I felt very fortunate to have found two wonderful women to share my life with. I don't know how I got so lucky."

Jim enjoyed his travels with loved ones to all of the continental United States, Mexico, Canada, Europe, Central and South America.

Jim made 14 hole in ones, and had shot his age on numerous occasions starting at the age of 69. Having won 5 South Dakota State Golf Championships, he was most proud of winning a senior Championship the same year his grandson Tyson won the South Dakota State Men's Title. An avid hunter and fisherman (holding a state record for a fish caught in the Missouri River), he enjoyed everything that is great about the Black Hills.

Jim is survived by his spouse, Mildred Hazledine of Spearfish
Surviving children; Son Donald James Hazledine Jr, wife Doreen, of Denver Co., Son Ronald Lee Hazledine, of Spearfish, Daughter Rebecca, Husband Terry Lindemann, Son Scott Richard Hazledine of Vancouver BC. Brother Gerry Hazledine, wife Pat, and Family of Spearfish. Step daughter Judy Hutchinson husband Drew.
Grandchildren Shane Hazledine, wife Sara of Spearfish, Tyson Hazledine of Spearfish, Linnea Lindemann, fiancée Drew Grosz of Brookings SD, Christopher Hazledine of Rapid City, Max Hazledine of San Antonio TX, Wade Hutchinson, wife Kristin of Draper, UT, Clay Hutchinson, wife Jessica of Box Elder SD, Nichole Mather, Husband Mitch of Wilsall MT., Great Grandchildren Baylee May Hazledine & Preston Jay Hazledine, Kyla Louise Mather.

Inurnment will follow the services at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Friends and Family are invited for a Gathering of Remembrance to be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, April 2nd , at The Cedar House Banquet Room, 130 Ryan Rd. Spearfish.
