Obituary

Curtis "Curt" Lee Larive, 77, of Spearfish, SD, formerly of Hot Springs, SD, died Sunday, May 4, 2008 at Dorsett Regional Senior Care in Spearfish.

Visitation will be from 5:00PM until 7:00PM on Thursday, May 8, 2008, at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs.

Funeral services will be at 2:00PM on Friday, May 9, 2008, at the United Churches in Hot Springs, with Reverend Morris Nelson officiating, Masonic rites by Harmony Masonic Lodge #110 AF&AM, full Military Honors by Hot Springs Honor Guard, burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs.

Memorials will be given to the NAJA Shriner's for transportation to the Shriner's Hospital. Memorials and condolences may be sent to the family of Curt Larive, 3045 Ridge Road, Spearfish, SD 57783.

Curt was born on December 29, 1930 to Hubert and Bernice Kendall in Green River, WY, and adopted by Clement and Thelma (Lessard) Larive. He was raised in Hot Springs, SD, and graduated from Hot Springs High School in 1949. He enlisted in the National Guard and then transferred into the United States Army, serving from 1948 until 1952. He returned to Hot Springs and married Kathleen "Lorraine" Maciejewski on July 21, 1953 in Hot Springs. He owned and operated Curt's Standard Station in Hot Springs until the mid 1990s. The couple moved to Spearfish in 2005.

Curt enjoyed sports, including bowling and golfing, hunting, fishing, and other outdoor activities. He enjoyed spending time with the company of his family and friends as well as digging rocks out of tires.

Curt was an active member of Harmony Masonic Lodge #110 AF&AM in Hot Springs. He was a NAJA Shriner and a member of the Black Hills Shrine Club and the Fall River Shrine Patrol. He enjoyed driving the NAJA Van to take children to the Shriner's Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. He was a past member of the Elks Lodge in Hot Springs.

Curt is survived by his wife, Lorraine Larive, daughter, Dodie McDill both of Spearfish, son, Michael (Joanna) Larive of Gillette, WY, 5 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Maxine Fredrickson, Barbetta Casbeer, and Claudia Herman all of California, and a step-sister Jodie Kaiser.

Curt was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Levi, son-in-law, John McDill and one brother Rex Kendall.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish, and McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs.
