Curt Christianson passed away peacefully in his home on September 7, 2026, surrounded by his Children. Born on Friday the 13th, October 13, 1950, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Curt was the son of Alice and Harold Christianson. He spent his early years as an Army brat, moving around, but eventually spending most of his childhood in Lead, South Dakota, where he grew up alongside his older brother, Bruce. He graduated from Lead High School in 1968.

On December 28, 1970, Curt married Louise Heiser. Together they raised three children: Amanda, Casey, and Beth. He spent those early years attending countless children’s sporting events, concerts, piano recitals, and ballet performances. As his children grew up and started their own families, he continued to spend time with his grandchildren and helping care for them during the kid’s extended military duties. Having the entire family together for the holidays always filled his heart.

Curt worked for Homestake Gold mine for more than 25 years, primarily in the machine shop, until the mine closed. He continued his career as a machinist in several roles before the family relocated to Colorado in 2001.

Curt loved to be outdoors. He enjoyed hunting in the Black Hills and later on enjoyed walking and finding new trails and paths around the neighborhood. He logged hundreds of miles around the Roxborough neighborhood and recorded each mile on the calendar that hung on the kitchen wall.

Not only did Curt raise his family and continue to be there for his grandchildren, but he was also dedicated to taking care of his many pets, cats Fritzle, Squirt and dog, Akita.

The strongest example of Curt’s devotion was the way he cared for Louise. When she was diagnosed with cancer, Curt remained by her side every step of the way, her caregiver, advocate, companion, and constant support. After nearly 55 years together, losing her last year was an immeasurable loss. Even as his own health declined, Curt’s thoughts remained centered on her. Caring for Louise had been woven into his identity.

The past year was difficult for Curt, but perhaps, in the end, there was a greater plan—one that prepared a way for Curt and Louise to be reunited, whole and free from the pain that had taken so much from them.

Curt lived a life of quiet faithfulness. He worked hard, showed up for others, kept his routines, walked his miles, cared for his animals, supported his wife, loved his children, and treasured his grandchildren. His legacy is not found in what he had, but in what he gave: his time, loyalty, strength, and unwavering devotion.

Curt is preceded in death by his parents, Alice and Harold Christianson, and his beloved wife, Louise. He is survived by his children: Amanda Ciatti (Steve) of Bellingham, Washington; Casey Christianson of Littleton, Colorado; and Beth Soelzer (Joshua) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and his grandchildren—Austin, Sophia, Christian, Caleb, Tessa, and Michael.

Curt was a simple man—but his love, his steadiness, and his faithfulness made a profound impact on everyone who knew him.

A Memorial Service will be held on October 20, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel, 450 N. 7th Street. Internment at Lawn Mountain Cemetery in Lead at 2:00 PM, 21493 North Rochford, Rd Lead, SD.
