Longtime Lead resident Colleen Nevin, 82, died Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Lead-Deadwood Regional Hospital in Deadwood following a recent illness.

Bettie Colleen Burt rum was born July 23, 1930, at Galena, Kan., to Harry and Wanda (Cure) Burtrum. She grew up in Lead, where she attended Lead High School. During her high school years she worked at the Franklin Hotel, Becker's Drug Store, the Homestake Theatre, where she met Thomas Patrick Nevin; and later she worked at McColley's Flower Shop.

They married July 24, 1948, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lead. They lived in Texas for two years while Tom served in the U.S. Army. They returned to Lead in 1950 and ultimately settled in his family's home on May Street, where they celebrated nearly 56 years of marriage.

Keenly interested in her community, she worked for the Lead School District, served as president of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Lead Cemetery Board and served on the Lead City Commission from 1985-86.

Family was her true passion and joy. She is survived by her children: Linda (Jim) Janeczek, Oak Forest, Ill.; Michael (Suzanne) Nevin, Lead; William Nevin, Pierre; and Mark Nevin, Lead; her sister, Peggy (Curtis) Wiese, Lead; grandchildren Kimberly Dertz, Kari Clapsaddle, Kathleen Shelton, Jamie Janeczek, Kris Homolka, Michelle Giacomaro, Lynette Hodgdon, Megan Bachand, Brian Pierce and Aron Nevin; 23 great-grandchildren; nieces Sue Mullen, Sandra Huber and Mary Kay Lundvall; and nephews Pat Dobbs, Don Holmer, Larry Gadler and Dan Gadler.

Visitation with family present will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, May 3, at the Lead-Deadwood Memorial Chapel. Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Mountain Lawn Holy Cross Cemetery near Lead, with the Father Kerry Prendiville officiating. A fellowship luncheon will follow at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lead.

A memorial has been established for the Twin Cities Senior Citizens Center.
Arrangements are under the care of the Lead-Deadwood Memorial Chapel in Lead.
