Obituary

Colleen Mae Ausmann, 90, of Lead, SD passed away on September 20, 2017 at the Lead-Deadwood Memorial Hospital.

Colleen was born to James and Stella (Turek) Campbell on April 14, 1927 in Deadwood, SD. She attended grade school in Deadwood graduating from Lead High School in 1945. In the Fall of 1946, Colleen went to South Dakota State College receiving her Associate Degree in English and Business. Colleen then worked at First National Bank in Lead for 9 years.

On August 18, 1957, she and William "Bill" Ausmann were married at Christ Episcopal Church in Lead. They had two children, Lori and Craig.

Colleen was initiated into Chapter AR PEO, now Chapter L PEO and was honored for 60 years of membership, holding every office. She was also a member of Chapter Laurette Beta Sigma Phi. Colleen enjoyed time spent golfing at Lead Country Club and was an avid bridge player. Colleen was a loyal attendee of the Episcopal Church.

In 1972, Colleen began working at Central Elementary School and West Lead Elementary School; a position she enjoyed very much. Colleen retired in 1990 and she and Bill, who were both avid sports fans, enjoyed travelling to NCAA basketball tournaments and college football games. Colleen's greatest pleasure was watching her granddaughters participate in their many activities.

Colleen is survived by Bill of Lead, her loving husband of 60 years; daughter, Lori Middlemas of Rapid City; son, Craig (Michelle) of Newcastle; sister, Jo Ann (Harry) McWilliams; sister-in-law, Shirley (Robert) Swanson; granddaughters, Kaitlan and Cydnee Middlemas, and Carli and Calbi Ausmann; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Colleen was preceded in death by her parents, James and Stella Campbell; in-laws Fred and Ethel Ausmann; grandson Tanner Ausmann; and aunts' uncles and cousins.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, September 25, 2017 at Christ Episcopal Church in Lead, SD.
