Obituary

Clara (Buss) Nicholas passed away at the age of 98 on Friday, September 26, 2008 at Burr's Tender Care Assisted Living Retirement Home in Spearfish.

Visitation will be from 2-7P.M., Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, October 2, 2008 at the United Methodist Church in Spearfish with Pastor David Baer officiating, burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Spearfish.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be directed to benefit the Spearfish Senior Citizens Center.
Clara was born March 11, 1910 in Rockham, SD. Clara attended grade school and some high school in Rockham and finished high school in Aberdeen. She received a two-year teaching certificate from Northern State Teacher's College and taught one year at West Linn School, south of Rockham and also in Colton and Seneca. She moved to the Black Hills where she met Chanley Nicholas, the couple married on October 1, 1938. She lived the rest of her life in the Crow Peak community.
Clara was a life long member of the Crow Peak Extension Club. She was assistant leader for the Master Feeders 4-H club from many years. She was honored at the Butte-Lawrence County Fair in August of 1990 for the Pioneering Spirit Award, Extension Club, 4-H service, and her support of fair and community spirit. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Spearfish, the Spearfish Senior Citizens Center, and an avid bridge player. She always kept busy doing some kind of crafts such as painting, needle point or keeping her family members warm with her crotched blankets.

She is survived by two sons, Darrell (Joanne) Nicholas and Glen (Connie) Nicholas of Spearfish, three grandchildren; Rebecca (Monty) Pedersen, Jason (Sarah) Nicholas, and Nicolle (Jim) DeCook, six great grandchildren; Meghan & Matthew Pedersen, Natalie and Necia Nicholas, and Emily and Chanley DeCook and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband Chanley, three sisters, her parents and one grandson.
