Clara Amanda Ness passed away January 7, 2025 at her home surrounded by her family during her last days.

Clara was born May 11, 1934 in Naples, SD to Arnie and Anne Bakken. She grew up on the family farm with her Dad and siblings. Clara started dating the love of her life Harold at 15. Not to say it was love at first sight. He was best friends with her brother Ludolph, and they would tease her horribly. When she was 19, they were married on her birthday, May 11, 1953. They had four children, Cheryl, DuWayne, Gerald and Ronda. They moved to the Black Hills in 1957. Clara did daycare in her home before she started working at BHSU in 1975, where she worked until retirement in 1994. After retirement they joined the Key City Ramblers camping club. She enjoyed taking her grandkids camping and teaching them to play cornhole and Skip-Bo. If she and Harold were not at home, you could find them in Deadwood. She enjoyed going Norsk Hostfest in North Dakota to celebrate her Norwegian Heritage. Her door was always open for her friends and family. There was always something to eat for the grandkids and great-grandkids as well.

Clara is survived by her children; Cheryl (Kelvin) Kiel of Spearfish, DuWayne (Michelle) Ness of Rapid City, Gerald (Mary) Ness of Casper, WY and Ronda Jarvis of Spearfish, grandchildren; Lisa, Larry, Adam, Toby, Tonya, Micheal, Joy, Cori, Callie, Carter, Tiffany, Kyle and numerous great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her spouse Harold, her parents, Arnie and Anne, her siblings; Axel, Art, Ruth and Ludolph and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 pm Friday 10, 2025 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish.  Inurnment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.
