Charles "Chuck" F. Williams died Friday, July 14, 2017, at his home in Deadwood following a brief illness.
Chuck was born Oct. 7, 1944, to Frank and Ingrid Williams in Duluth, Minn. He graduated from Duluth East High School in 1962, and later received a degree in highway engineering from Duluth Vo-Tech.
After completing school, he moved to Minneapolis, Minn. and went to work for the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MDOT). It was while working there that he met Bernadette F. Gryskiewicz, and the two married on April 30, 1966. The couple had two children; a son, Todd, and a daughter, Tracey.
Chuck worked for MDOT for 12 years before taking the position of Dunn County (Wis.) highway superintendent. In 1980, he moved to Deadwood to take a job as the Lawrence County highway superintendent; a job he held for 28 years until his retirement.
Chuck is survived by his son, Todd (Heidi) Williams of Dhahran, Saudi Arabia; daughter, Tracey Charles (and special friend Morgan); grandchildren, Thea Winans, Sophia Williams, and Brewer Williams; and special friend Donna McLaughlin, Spearfish.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 2009; and a brother, Mark.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, July 20, at the Deadwood Mountain Grand in Deadwood.
