IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Christal
Pummel
March 20, 1951 – November 2, 2024
Christal Jean Pummel, 73, a native of Lead, SD and resident of Spearfish, SD, passed away at home on Saturday, November 2, 2024 after a lifelong battle with diabetes and multiple sclerosis.
Christal was born March 20, 1951 in Deadwood, SD to Albert "Bud" and Aili Maria (Penttila) Mitchell and was a sister to Eileen and Steven. She was raised in Lead, attended schools there, and graduated from Lead High School in 1969. She received a BA degree in Music from Black Hills State College in 1973.
She worked as a legal secretary at the law firm of Richards and Hood for several years. She then pursued a career at Spearfish Hospital for 23 years as a medical transcriptionist, and later, as manager of medical records for Monument Health.
Christal had a love and passion for music. She served as a church organist, pianist, and vocalist at the United Church of Christ in Spearfish for two decades until her health dictated otherwise.
Christal was united in marriage to Gary Alan Pummel, on July 21, 1990 in Spearfish. Gary was a very loving husband who provided an unwavering and selfless level of care and well-being for her. Likewise, one of Christal's joys was providing nourishment and snacks for all the birds in the neighborhood and food, shelter, and care for any stray cat that appeared at her doorstep.
Left to cherish and hold dear the many memories of Christal are her husband, Gary, of Spearfish; brother, Steven (Cindy) Mitchell of Rapid City, SD; brothers- and sisters-in-law Charlie of Phoenix, AZ; David (Kellie) of Belle Fourche; Stuart (Debbie) of Casper, WY; Patricia Pummel of Spearfish; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Eileen.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1020 State Street, Spearfish. Graveside services will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be given in Christal's memory to the Artemis House in Spearfish or a charity of your choice.
Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Isburg Crematory of Spearfish. Condolences may be communicated online at www.fidler-isburgfuneralchapels.com.
