Christine Smaranda Istratescu, 94 of Lead, died unexpectedly in the home that she loved on March 14, 2015.
Born in Freiberg, Germany, September 15, 1920, she married Paul Istratescu after the war, immigrated to Lead in 1952 where she raised five children, Constance and Madelaine Istratescu, Veronica "Nicky" Spencer, Paulette Banks, Chris Stelian, by herself after Paul's illness and death.
Christine's creativity, interests and energy were boundless, design and gardening were her passions and many awards for garden of the year were won. Who will so lovingly make the garden yield its marvels year in and year out? Mother, your children, grandchildren, Matt DeWolfe, Alex Spencer, great grandchildren, Christian and Aiden DeWolfe, love and miss you so much. You were such an inspiration!
According to Christine's wishes, there will be a cremation and gathering of immediate family to honor her memory. Condolences can be sent to Nicky Spencer, 821 St. James, Rapid City, SD 57701.
