Chester Trancynger, 90, of Spearfish, SD died Thursday, February 4, 2010 at the Dorsett Regional Senior Care in Spearfish after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Vigil Service will be at 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, February 11, 2010 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Spearfish, with Father Timothy Castor as Celebrant. Burial will take place on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Joseph Fund at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Spearfish.
Chester was born on 23, December 1919 to Steve and Frances (Kowalik) Trancynger in Yonkers, New York. He was one of eleven children.
Chester enlisted in the Army in September 1943, and received his Surgical Tech training at Fitzsimons Hospital at Camp Carson CO. He served in New Guinea and the Philippians during World War II. While in New Guinea he met the love of his life, 1st Lt. Antoinette E. Leiweke. Chester helped build the field hospitals, and later administer medical care to the American Marines and soldiers and also the cared for the Japanese Prisoners of War. In 1947 Chester and Antoinette were married at Centire, MO. For 52 years they shared a time of love and devotion to each other. Their principle residence was in Florissant, MO. He worked for Asacro as chief account and office manager, Alton, IL. He loved his boys; they were his pride. His passion for sports were golf and bowling. He even made a hole-in-one "once"! Besides golf and bowling he loved baseball. He enjoyed many a game at the Old Bush Stadium watching the St. Louis Cardinals with Antoinette, his sons and grandchildren. He also had a special love for his Brooklyn Bums-the L.A. Dodgers.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas (Susan) Trancynger of Spearfish and Michael Trancynger of Richmond, VA; grandchildren; Steve (Miyeon) Trancynger of Gillette, WY, Nicole (Brent) Larsen of Spearfish, and three great-grandchildren; Gracie, Madisen and Hannah, two brothers, Fred (Peg) Trancynger of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Raymond (Dorothy) Trancynger of Phoenix, AZ, four sisters; Stella Warnock, Ann Zubia both of Melbourne, FL, Sophie Silka, Ronnie (Sam) Fillo, both of Yonkers, NY.
Chester was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Antoinette in 1999, an infant daughter, two brothers, Walter Trancynger, Alex (Brown) Trancynger and two sisters, Jean Selva and Pauline Sasko
