Cherie Gail Bauer, age 82, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2023, due to complications from a stroke at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital.
Cherie was born on August 29, 1940, to Sylvester (Vet) and Ivy Beyeler, and was raised as one of 11 children on a northeastern Nebraska farm until she was 8 years old when the family moved to the community of Newcastle, NE. Cherie had a fine alto singing voice and was in several musical ensembles in high school, as well as the church choir. After graduating from high school, she married and followed her husband Gene to Upton, WY for 13 years. They moved to Spearfish in 1969 where she remained for the rest of her life. Cherie lived her life for the benefit of others. While mostly a dedicated housewife and mother, she worked at La Mode Dress Shop for a time and volunteered at the Dorsett Home for many years, earning a Volunteer of the Year award.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law Tina Samuelsen Bauer of Rapid City; daughter Lori Bauer of Modesto, CA; granddaughter Taylor (Kevin) Bailes and great-granddaughter Margot Bailes of Winter Park, FL; sisters Robin (Jim) Andersen of Laramie, WY; Elaine Cantrell of Dakota City, NE; Georjean Olson of S. Sioux City, NE; Carolyn Stanek of Valley Center, KS; Ivette (Lyle) Bender of Lincoln, NE; Pam (Dick) Kettler of Dakota City, NE; brother Vet (Patti) Beyeler of Newcastle, NE; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Gene Bauer; son Kurt Bauer; sisters Bobbie Hoesing and Star Nielsen, and brother Myrle Beyeler.
Per her request, there will be no church service, but a graveside service will be held at Black Hills National Cemetery on Friday, July 7, 2023, at 1:00 pm where her ashes will be interned with her husband Gene. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Spearfish Nutrition Site/Meals on Wheels, 430 Oriole Drive, Spearfish, SD 57783.
