November 15, 1937 – February 28, 2025
Charlynn R Krogstad was born on November 15, 1937, at Chester, SD to Harold and Emma (Neubert) Alvine joining her sister Yvonne. She attended Willow Creek Country School until the 4th grade when the school closed. She graduated from Lyons High School in 1956.
Char met Rich Krogstad, the love of her life, at the Sioux Empire Fair. They were married August 3, 1957 and raised 3 children. Char had many talents and interests, and a love of music and animals. Some of her talents included playing the piano, piano accordion, singing with the church choir as well as singing solos. She also directed the choir. After moving to Spearfish she started and directed the bell choir at Our Saviors Lutheran Church.
Because of Char's love of animals, she started the humane society at her home near Spearfish. During the 8 years she was the director of the Western Hills Humane Society she received the community service award from the Rotary club, the city of Spearfish proclaimed Char Krogstad day and animal shelter awareness week. She also received the Spirit of the Hills award, and the 5th grade class of Katie Garcia presented her with the Elder Wisdom award.
On February 28, 2025, she joined Rich, her husband of 61 years, parents Harold and Emma (Neubert) Alvine and sister Yvonne. She is survived by her daughter Lorrie (Randy) Vandever of Belle Fourche, son James (Staci) Krogstad of Spearfish and son Daniel (Diane) Krogstad of Brookings, 8 grandkids, 13 great grand kids, number 14 is due in June and several nieces and nephews.
The family of Char Krogstad would like to thank Heartland Senior Living for the care they provided Char before her passing.
Visitation will be Sunday March 9, 2025, from 5:00-7:00pm at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel. Service will be on Monday March 10, 2025, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church at 11:00am. Burial will follow the service at 2:30pm at Black Hills National Cemetery.
