Charlotte M Schuttler, 85, of Spearfish passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Spearfish Regional Hospital.
Charlotte was born on June 22, 1929 in Lead, SD to Robert M and Marian (Moses) Bryant of Central City. Charlotte's mother passed away in Central City in 1934 and at that time her Aunt Mary Bryant Walton, who was her father's older sister, left her teaching position in Kansas City and returned to take care of the family which then consisted of her father, two younger brothers and younger sister. Charlotte attended grade school at Central City. After one semester at Lead High School, the family moved to Redwater when the Homestake Mine closed at Lead due to World War II. Charlotte attended Spearfish High School graduating in 1946. The family continued to live on Redwater where her father operated the power plants for Black Hills Power and Light Company.
Charlotte attended Black Hills State College, South Dakota State College and Colorado State. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics at South Dakota State University. After graduation, Charlotte worked as a County Extension Home Economist for 34 years with 31 as the Lawrence County Extension Home Economist.
Charlotte and Linfred were married in 1971 and made their home in Spearfish on State Street.
Charlotte was active in the United Methodist Church, PEO, Beta Sigma Phi, Queen City Chapter Order of Eastern Star, AAUW, Past Matron Order of Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma, Epsilon Sigma Phi, Daughter of the Nile, Society of Black Hills Pioneers, Hospital Auxiliary, volunteer in Spearfish Regional Hospice, Daughters of the American Revolution and TOPS. In 2009, Charlotte and Linfred served as Parade Marshalls in the 4th of July Parade. She also served as Regional Councilor for the National Association of Home Economists. Charlotte loved traveling and with her husband, Linfred, they traveled through 45 states, Canada, Mexico, Central America, Europe and North Africa.
Charlotte enjoyed volunteering and served on several committees and organizations. She was on the original committee to establish a Senior Citizens Organization and was one of the original committee members to organize the Annual Festival in the Park.
The Schuttlers moved to Edgewood Vista in 2009.
She is survived by her husband, Linfred; brother, Wayne; and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her Aunt Mary; brother, Robert and sister, Patsy Ann.
Memorial services will be at 11:00am on Monday, January 19, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Spearfish. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to benefit the United Methodist Church.
