Charles William Trentz, 78, died March 10, 2013 at his home in Deadwood, SD. He was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma Cancer in 2001. He fought a long, tough battle and will be greatly missed.
Charles was born the only child of Clarence "Pete" and Martyne Trentz in Randolph, NE. At age one, the Trentz family moved to Lead, SD. Charles attended grade school at St. Patrick's School and graduated from Lead High School. He attended Black Hills Teachers College in Spearfish, where he played as running back for the football team. It was there he met and married his love of 58 years, Donna Labor. After two years of college, Charles began his employment of 42 years with Homestake Mining Company.
His life was fulfilled by being a wonderful father to three children, David Trentz, Deadwood, SD, Terri (David) Grosek, Westminster, CO, and Kristen (Douglas) Purcell, Brookings, SD. He never missed any activity, whether it was a ball game, a play, a debate, a 4-H project or scouts. He was always a front row coach and advisor.
Charles continued that support and love with his seven grandchildren who lived across the Midwest, sitting through basketball and football games, watching plays and cheerleading competitions. His love of fishing, working with wood or teaching a loud game of cribbage will be embedded in their hearts forever. He will also be a loving memory to his five great-grandchildren.
Charles was an active member of St. Patrick's Church. He served on the church council, as a Eucharistic Minister and an officer of the Knights of Columbus, where he played a huge part in helping to raise funds for the new church in Lead.
To a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, you will always be in our hearts.
