Charles Francis Stoudt Carl, 64 of Spearfish, passed away on November 17, 2017 at Spearfish Regional Hospital. Charles (Chuck) was born on February 6, 1953 in McMinnville, Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Naoma Carl.
Chuck attended Crippled Children's Hospital in Sioux Falls. During his early years, Chuck lived with his family in Lead and later on with his family in Spearfish. He moved to the Dorsett Home in Spearfish in 1972 where he has resided for the last 46 years.
Chuck, known to his friends as Chuckie, enjoyed many interests; including listening to music, and watching action movies and crime investigation programs. Chuck was an outstanding chess player. He played chess daily and was part of a large chess community, both on-line and with local players.
No one enjoyed a Coke more than Chuck did. A can could always be found in the cup holder of his wheelchair. In his younger years he could be spotted cruising the streets of Spearfish with one of his sisters. In later years, he enjoyed trips to Walmart and sitting outside at the Dorsett home in the sunshine.
Chuck had a very strong faith in the Lord. He was known and loved by many people. Chuck is survived by his four sisters; Leslie (Ed) Sewell, Denise (David) Irwin, Kathy (Steve) Smith, and Kim (Dominic) Larive; a special cousin, Kenny (Loretta) Thomas; numerous nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the United Methodist Church in Spearfish. Inurnment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. A memorial will be established in his name.
