Charles (Charlie) Plocek, Spearfish, 91, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2013 at the David M. Dorsett Home.
Charlie was born at home near Lemmon, SD on March 23, 1922 to Frank and Josie (Prochaska) Plocek.
Charlie was married to Katherine Erker on September 16, 1944. To this union five children were born.
After their marriage, Charlie and Katie farmed and ranched southeast of Lemmon. Charlie also worked for the South Dakota Game Fish and Parks where helped build the campground at Shadehill Dam. He also helped build the campground at Bear Butte State Park. In 1964 they purchased property in Spearfish and spent time at the farm near Lemmon and Spearfish every year until they sold the farm. Charlie and his brother-in-law also clear cut the area for Mystic Miner Ski Resort.
Charlie logged for Garhart and Pool until he retired. After his retirement he tilled gardens, spent time with Katie at Beck's Nursery and gardened for Farmer's Market for a number of years.
Charlie loved to read; enjoyed visiting with his friends at Junek's Service, and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife Katie, his parents and all seven of his siblings.
He is survived by his sons Richard (Ellen), Neil (Debbie), and daughters Anita (Jim) Haeder, Laure Walter, Barb (Marlon) Bunney, 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held.
