Charles R. Orcutt, 88, Moorcroft, WY passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at his home surrounded with the love of his family.
He was born in Oxford, NE to Daniel and Eva (Hosier) Orcutt on April 30, 1925. After his birth they moved to a farm in Missouri then on to Wray, CO. After his father's death in 1937, at the age of 12 he went to work to help support his family at Eckberg's in Beacher, Island, CO herding turkeys while still attending school in Wray.
At the age of 17, in July of 1943 he enlisted into the 321st infantry as a Combat Infantryman in World War II. He served in the Southern Philippines and western Pacific battles and campaigns. He was honorably discharged in February 1946 as a decorated World War II Veteran. He was awarded many medals, bronze stars and ribbons.
After the Army he moved to Casa, WY. He worked for Twiford Ranch where he meet Sylvia Scheler. Two years later on June 16, 1947 they were married in St. Francis KS. To this union of 66 years, four children were born.
He farmed, worked at a Ford garage, a timber man, and the oil field in Wyoming, Colorado and Oregon. After retirement he enjoyed fishing, gardening and playing cards. He taught all of his kids and grandkids how to play cribbage and pinochle. He loved spending time with family and friends. He was always ready with a joke.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Orcutt, Moorcroft; children, Cindy (John) McCoullough, Kinnear, WY, Chuck (Mary) Orcutt, Henderson, TX, Kellie Orcutt, Kinnear, WY and Kevin Orcutt, Moorcroft, nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Beulah Chroninger of Greybull, WY; numerous nieces, nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, a brother and grandson, Roy Charles (R.C) Orcutt.
