Charles Howard Ice, age 74, Spearfish, SD went home to his heavenly Father on October 8, 2017 at Fort Meade VA Medical Center.
He was born on March 30, 1943 in Roswell, NM to Howard and Jane (McClung) Ice. Charles was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
Charles grew up in the Air Force as a child and had many experiences from coast to coast in the United States as well as Panama and Japan. He attended many elementary schools and graduated from Boise, Idaho High School in 1961. After attending Boise State Community College, he joined the United States Navy. He served for 22 ½ years with time spent in the Vietnam War bringing honor upon himself and our country as a jet engine mechanic. After retiring from the Navy, he worked for American Eagle Airlines in the maintenance department until JoAnn retired from teaching several years later.
After being an active participant in the Catholic Church for many years, Charles converted to Catholicism.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnn (Williams) Ice of Clearfield, SD; daughter, Shelly (Richard Franks) of Portland, OR; one granddaughter, Kylie and his sister, Diana Filner, of Danville, CA. He also leaves behind many brothers and sisters in-law, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Charles was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents.
Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Spearfish. Vigil will follow at 7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 13, 2017 at the church. Burial will take place at Black Hills National Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to benefit Hospice of the Northern Hills.
