Charles "Chuck" Donner, 85, Deadwood, SD died Sunday, March 3, 2013 at his home.
Chuck was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1927 in Redfield, SD to Michael and Elsie (McFarland) Donner. He was raised in the Hitchcock-Tulare area, graduating from Tulare High School. After high school, he attended the University of South Dakota for a time. He then entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1946. He spent most of his time stationed in California. After he left the military he returned to Tulare for a short time, before moving to the Black Hills, where he started his career with Homestake Mining Company. While working there he met his first wife, Carol. They were married in 1959, to this union three children were born, Denise, Mike and Diane. They divorced in the 1970's. He then met Louray Mittlestadt; they were wed September 27, 1990 in Plano, TX. They spent the next 20 years together, traveling, visiting grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They also enjoyed bowling, cards and the Four Aces Buffet. He loved his house and relaxing in his yard. Chuck was affectionately known as "Alki" from the Alkili fields by his co-workers at Homestake. Chuck never met a stranger; everyone was his friend.
