Obituary

Charles R. Butler, 91 of Spearfish, SD, left this earth and joined his beautiful wife and many pets on January 10, 2025. Charles was born on February 27, 1933, to Letha and Ryburn Butler in Gillette, Wyoming.  He was the oldest of their 4 children.  After graduating from Campbell County High School, he joined the United States Airfoce.

He met and married his wife, Jacqueline Egan, while stationed in England.  They were married on May 18, 1956, and spent 64 happy years together.  They lovingly raised two sons and two daughters together.  Charles was also a committed foster parent with his wife.  He loved fishing, camping and spending time in the Big Horns.  Later in life he spent his time walking by Spearfish Creek, doing jigsaw puzzles and making 3D wooden models.  One of his favorite past times was watching his grandchildren play their many sports.  He was a big NFL fan-go Broncos, as well as an NBA fan-go Bucks!

Charles was extremely proud to be a United States Air Force veteran.  During his over 20 years of service he was awarded with two bronze stars, one for meritorious service in Vietnam where he served in intelligence. When out in public he always wore an Air Force hat and was often stopped and thanked for his service to our country.  His face would light every time!

His pride and joy were his 14 grandchildren. They always put a smile on his face and joy in his heart. He will be dearly missed.

Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline, his parents, two brothers and two grandsons.  He is survived by his sister, Janie, his four children, Sheree, Chuck, Cliff and Laura, as well as 14 grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Arrangements are under the care of Isburg Funeral Home and Crematory of Spearfish.  Charles and Jacqueline's ashes will be buried together at the Black Hills National Cemetery in the spring.
