Charles O. Bliss, 87 of Spearfish, SD passed away Monday, October 28, 2024 at Spearfish Canyon Healthcare.

Charles Odell Bliss was born on the 7th of November 1936 in Oakland, California to Esther Hanson and William Bliss. He grew up near Winfred, SD and was raised by Linda and Clair Hanson an aunt and uncle following the death of his father. Charles spent two years in the National Guard and four years in the United States Air Force. He was married to Lila Hyink and to this union three children were born; Ricky, Sandra and Rodney. Following his time in the armed services, Charles farmed, was an electrician, and an assistant manager at Lake Herman State Park. Charles and Lila moved to the Black Hills where they owned and operated a cabin court at Custer and Trailshead (a snowmobile pit stop), and he built a few houses in his spare time.

Charles is survived by his wife Lila, a daughter, Sandra (Bob) VanDeest, a son, Rodney (Candace) Bliss, step-sister, Dorothea Edgington, his grandchildren; Jeremy (Gina) VanDeest, Andy (Jamie) VanDeest, Sara (Pete) Skvicalo, Kayla Bliss and Hallie Bliss, ten great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchild.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father, Ray E. Edgington, his aunt and uncle, Linda and Clair Hanson, his son, Ricky Dean Bliss and a grandson, Todd Bliss.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30am, Friday, November 1, 2024 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Spearfish.
