Carroll was born October 31, 1919 at Wheaton Township, Hand County, South Dakota, to George and Minnie Anderson. He was the third child of six children. They have all gone before him. On December 27, 1939, he married the love of his life, Floreine Sisson. They were married nearly 69 years before her passing in 2008. To this union was born two daughters and six sons; Mary Lynn (Bob) Edwards of Casper, WY, Jim Anderson of Spearfish, George (Nikki) Anderson of Jackson, WY, Dan (Korlynn) Anderson of Powell, WY, Bruce (DeLain) Anderson of Farson, WY, Susanne (Ron) Keil of Belle Fourche, SD, Darryl (Jane) Anderson of Houston, TX and Ken Anderson of Rapid City, SD.
Carroll was engaged in farming in his early years near Redfield, SD. In 1956 he moved his family to Spearfish to fulfill his dream of living in the Black Hills. He engaged in various forms of employment until he opened The Bargain House, which he operated until his retirement, while there he met and became friends to many. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, hunting, fishing and camping. He loved to tell stories of these experiences. Coffee with his friends Arno and Elmer were his other joys, in his later years. He will be remembered also, for his love of horses, especially "Flica". He also enjoyed family history and relating stories of long ago. Carroll was a devoted lifelong member of the Congregational /UCC Church, first at the Wheaton Church and then the Spearfish UCC. He held the positions as Church Moderator, Christian Education Chairman, Deacon and Trustee and was a member of the King's Men. Music was a passion, he sang in the church choirs all of his adult life, until three years ago. In addition, he was one of the founders and a longtime member of the Northern Hills Barber Shop and sang in the Sr. Chorus as well. Carroll leaves, as a legacy to all, his great love for the Lord. He was in daily communion with Him. When he could no longer read scriptures, he enjoyed having them read to him. He had a long prayer list with each and every family member on it (some 80+), which he prayed for, by name, daily. His prayer life has impacted many.

In addition to his eight children and their spouses, he is survived by 21 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and a large extended family.
