Carlos G. Wolfer, 83 of Spearfish died Tuesday, September 01, 2009 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M., Friday, September 4th 2009 at the United Church of Christ in Spearfish with Reverend Peg Grzelkowski officiating. Inurnment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.

A memorial has been established.

Carlos was born April 16, 1926 to August and Pauline (Pfeifer) Wolfer in Corson County, South Dakota. He was raised and attended school in McLaughlin.
He left school in 1943 and went to work in the shipyards in the Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Washington areas. He returned to McLaughlin and worked at Kurle Elevator until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1944. He served for twenty-one months before being honorably discharged as a corporal. Carlos married Elizabeth Vetter in 1952 and to this union four children were born. He spent most of his life grain farming and custom machine work, in addition to owning and operating a trucking firm in the McLaughlin area. He also worked at the Selfridge Cheese Plant. Following retirement Carlos and Liz moved to Spearfish and enjoyed spending winters in Apache Junction, Arizona. Carlos enjoyed working in his yard and gardening when he wasn't visiting and spending time with his children, grandchildren and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth "Liz" Wolfer, four children; Gloria (Joe) Owens, Tammy (Kent) Miller, Carla Wolfer and Marshall Wolfer, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one grandchild.
