Bruce John Policky, 54, of Houston, Texas, died September 6, 2010, in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
Bruce was born May 1, 1956, in Fort Collins, Colorado, the son of the late Robert Allen Policky and Trudy Mae Hoskins. He was the oldest of 3 siblings. On August 13, 1977, he married Elizabeth Timm in Gillette, Wyoming. They shared thirty-two adventure filled years and were blessed with two children.
Bruce graduated from Spearfish High School, Spearfish, South Dakota, in 1974. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Wyoming in 1978. He was employed by British Petroleum for the majority of his professional career and worked in the oil and gas business for 32 years. During this time he had the privilege of working in many diverse locals including North Dakota, Alaska, Venezuela, Texas, Russia, England and Dubai. He was a very accomplished and respected Petroleum Engineer. He was a career long member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
Bruce cherished his children and spent endless hours enjoying their many activities. He also loved spending time in the outdoors with family and friends. He thoroughly enjoyed hunting on the Policky family ranch in Wyoming and hunting and fishing in the Alaskan back country. He was an avid sports fan, particularly enjoying professional football. He had a passion for music. In his youth, he was an accomplished downhill ski racer traveling to destinations as far away as Tignes, France.
Bruce is survived by his former wife, Elizabeth Policky of Spring, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Sarah Policky Taylor and Gavin Taylor of Spring, Texas; son, Eric Policky of Houston, Texas; mother and step father, Trudy and Charles Hoskins of Canon City, Colorado; brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Carol Policky of North Richland Hills, Texas; and brother and sister-in-law, Greg and Deonne Policky of Salida, Colorado. He is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, uncles and aunts.
Bruce Policky was preceded in death by his father, Robert Allen Policky.
A celebration of life will be held at Rose Hill Cemetery, Spearfish, South Dakota on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 3:00 p.m.
