Brooks Lee Hanna of Spearfish, SD, passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at the age of 80 years old.

Brooks was born June 13, 1945, in Williston, ND to Claude and Fay Hanna. He was raised in Watford City, ND, graduating from high school in 1964. He spent much of his younger years with his beloved Uncle Lee. He met the love of his life, Elaine Berget and married her on December 28, 1964.

Brooks was ‘pedal to the metal’ whether at work or play. He was at home on the basketball court, both as a player and as a referee, cementing many friendships. Over the years, he owned and managed multiple award-winning car dealerships in ND, SD, WY, MT. He was beloved by his employees, customers, and business partners. He loved to fly his airplanes, appreciating the earth and inhabitants beneath his wings. He was just as comfortable on the ground, becoming an avid golfer. Brooks was a long-time supporter of BHSU athletics, attending many sporting events and contributing time and money to the programs.

Of all his accomplishments, the most important thing to Brooks was the relationships he fostered. He loved life and loved meeting people, lighting up the room wherever he went.

Brooks is survived by his beloved wife and companion Elaine; four children, Holly (Hank) McClurg, Chad (Mieka) Hanna, Shane Hanna, and Scott (Krista) Hanna; five grandchildren, Blake, Brook, Bryn, Reese, and Cooper; and two sisters, Beverly Olheiser, and Cindy (Peter) Ostman.

He is preceded in death by his parents, in-laws Olaf & Pearl Berget, and brothers-in-law Bruce Berget, Ron Olheiser, and Harley Wright.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 AM June 2, 2026 at the Spearfish Holiday Inn Convention Center. In lieu of flowers, a contribution to Northern Hills Training Center would be appreciated.
