Obituary

Boyd Lee Bessire, 87, passed away on June 19, 2026. Born on July 22, 1938, in Grafton, North Dakota, Boyd was the son of Charles and Quanita Bessire. He lived a long life marked by faith, service, dedication, and the relationships he shared with family and friends. Boyd proudly served his country in the United States Army.

His military service reflected the sense of duty and commitment that remained a part of his character throughout his life. A strong Christian, Boyd's faith was the foundation of his life. He trusted in the Lord, lived according to his beliefs, and sought to be an example of kindness, integrity, and compassion to those around him. His unwavering faith provided strength and guidance throughout his life's journey. Boyd shared 53 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Shari (Belmont) Bessire. Together they built a life centered on faith, love, family, and enduring commitment. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Boyd took great pride in his family.

He is survived by his wife, Shari; and his children: Mark (Christine) Bessire of Arlington, Washington; Michael (Nancy) Bessire of Bullhead City, Arizona; Cindy (Dave) Van Horn of Sundance, Wyoming; and Shelly (Tim) Lechner of Spearfish, South Dakota. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Brandon Van Horn, Tye (Erin) Van Horn, Gracie Van Horn (Jared Habeck) and Kristi Ulmer of Sundance, Wyoming; Luke Bessire of Arlington, Washington; Rachel Bessire of Ypsilanti, Michigan; Nathan Lechner of Spearfish, South Dakota; and Jacob Lechner of Fort Collins, Colorado. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Karen Ulmer, Kole Van Horn , Murphee Van Horn, Stevee Van Horn and Ella Habeck of Sundance, Wy; Kendall Van Horn of Rapid City, South Dakota; Nautica Bessire of Arlington, Washington. Boyd is also survived by his sisters, Jackie (Dave) and Sandy (Ken), and his brother, Steve (Deb), and sister-in law Carol.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Nita Bessire; his brother, Bill Bessire; and his grandson, Kyle Van Horn.

Boyd will be remembered for the impact he made on those who knew and loved him. His life was a testament to perseverance, hard work, deep faith, and the importance of family. His presence brought comfort and companionship to many, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind. While his family mourns his passing, they find comfort in the assurance of his eternal home with the Lord and rejoice in the promise of being reunited with him again. 

A celebration of Boyd's life will be held at a later date. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
