Obituary

Bonnie Stewart, 76 of Spearfish, passed away on December 11, 2016 at the David M Dorsett Healthcare Center in Spearfish.

Bonnie was born on July 16, 1940 in Rapid City, SD to Lawrence and Marjorie (Wedmore) Steele. Her family owned the Gimlet Creek Ranch near Rochford. At the age of five, bonnie would get up early, eat, hop on her horse and round up the milk cows. At this young age, she not only got the cows to the barn but then milked them. She graduated from Spearfish High School and received her Teaching Certificate from Black Hills State College. During this time, she also took a Air Traffic Controller Course at the Spearfish Airport. To put this new knowledge to use, she joined the Navy and proudly served two terms of duty and was the poster girl for the US Navy! During those 10 years she became friends with some very important people including J.F.K. himself. After the Navy she came back to Spearfish where she met and married Leroy Stewart.

She had a great love for singing and dancing, which she started learning at a young age from her mother, traveling and being a Veteran.

Graveside services will take place at a later time at Black Hills National Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Crematory Service of Spearfish. Online condolences may be written at www.fidler-isburgfuneralchapels.com
