Bobby Jack Davis, 75, of Upton, WY passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at his home in North Las Vegas, NV.
Bobby was born on August 1, 1939 in Graham, Texas to Hubert and Jesse (Theral) Davis. In 1949, at the age of 10, his family moved to Northeast Wyoming where his father worked in the Weston County oil fields. After moving from Newcastle and then to field camps, the Davis' finally settled in Upton and in 1957 Bobby graduated from Upton High School.
Bobby pursued a degree in Electrical Engineering for three years at the University of Wyoming and in April 1960 met Jeanne Taylor of Denver, Colorado. Bobby and Jeanne married August 10, 1960 and on August 11, 1960 Bobby joined the United States Air Force. After three years in Denver, Bobby returned to Laramie to finish his degree and graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Electrical Engineering.
After completing his degree, Bobby served three more years in the United States Air Force and then served 14 years in the United States Public Health Service, working on various projects including nuclear testing. In August of 1980, after serving his country for 20 years, Bobby was honorably discharged. He then moved back to Upton, Wyoming to begin a career in oil production, which lasted 26 years, selling AmWest Petroleum in 2006. During his time in oil production, Bobby also received his Bachelors of Science in Geology from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, South Dakota.
In Retirement, Bobby and Jeanne wintered in Las Vegas, NV and Bobby renewed his high school interest in discus throwing. He went on to win a couple of senior throwing competitions. He soon found a pupil in Kevin Allen. There after Kevin won three state discus titles and received a throwing scholarship to Utah State University.
Bobby was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church and is survived by his wife; son, Troy (Nicky) Davis; three daughters, Chris (Paul) Gist of Lavon, TX, Kim Esquivel of Upton, WY and Kathi (Tommy) Black of North Pole, AK; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donnie (Shirley) Davis and Joe (Karen) Davis; sister, Claudie (Delbert) Eitel and numerous nieces and nephews. Bobby was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harrell Davis, and son-in-law, Ronald Esquivel.
Memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 16, 2015 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Newcastle, WY. The family will have a private inurnment at a later date in Upton, WY.
