Obituary

Bob Swift, 71, of Lead, South Dakota, died unexpectedly of a stroke, Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, NV.

He was born September 22, 1941 in Zeeland, MI., the son of Frank and Martha Jacoby Swift. Bob graduated Class of '59 from Greenville High School and then served three years in the United States Navy.

Bob married his high school sweetheart, Beverly Ann Gallagher (Class of '60) on June 17, 1961 and they enjoyed 51 years together. He was a devoted father to his four daughters, Kim, Cheryl, Kristin, and Francis, who were the light of his life.

He retired in 2008 after being employed by Bell+Howell/Iron Mountain Corporation, for thirty-eight years. While with the company he served in many venues, starting with Sales/Service and ending with the position of Executive Vice President, which he held for many years. Upon retiring, Bob was so proud to be presented with the "Corner Stone" Award and a beautiful yellow Corvette convertible, for his years of dedication to the company. After retirement, Bob and Bev moved to the Black Hills, South Dakota, where he built "Elk Run", their dream log home in the woods. A memorial service and a "celebration of his life" party will be held there in the spring.

Survivors include his wife, four daughters, eight grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, one brother, and several nieces & nephews.

Bob's motto to live by always was "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming, "WOO-HOO, what a ride!" ….and he did just that!

Memorial contributions can be made in Bob's name to the Crazy Horse Memorial
