Obituary

Benjamin F. (Tead) Weaver, 86, passed away Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009, at his home in Upton, Wyoming.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, October 29, at the Boal Auditorium in the Upton Elementary School with a reception to follow in the cafeteria. A private burial will be in the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, South Dakota.

Tead was born January 7, 1923, in Lead, South Dakota. He was one of four children born to Almer and Inez Weaver. After graduating from Spearfish, South Dakota High School, Tead attended Black Hills Teachers' College in Spearfish and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942. Tead married Freda Jean Mabbott on June 5, 1943, in Norman, Oklahoma. Following his discharge in 1946, Tead returned to Spearfish and completed his education at Black Hills Teacher's College.

Upon graduation Tead began his teaching and coaching careers in Sundance, Wyoming. Six years later he and his family moved to Upton where he spent the rest of his life. During these years he was a teacher, coach and administrator for the Upton Schools. He retired in 1985.

Tead enjoyed many successes as a coach and as an excellent educator, receiving several state and national awards. He was a long-time member of the Wyoming Coaches Association.

Survivors include: his wife, Freda; his daughters, JoNel (Roger) Wilmot, Laramie; Lynnea (Doug) Bartlett, Torrington; sons, Brett (Bonny) Weaver, Newcastle; and Chris (Karen) Weaver of Phoenix and Seattle; his grandchildren, Casey and Kyle Wilmot, Brendon and Brady Weaver, Gabe and Josh Bartlett, and Ashley (Weaver) Neal, Aaron, and Nick Weaver, and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings Betty Anderson, Spearfish, South Dakota, and Colleen Travis, Lawton, Oklahoma.

Tead was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Clyde.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the existing B. F. Weaver Scholarship, First Tier Bank, Box 560, Upton, Wyoming 82730. This scholarship was established for an Upton High School graduate upon Mr. Weaver's retirement.
