Betty Whittington, 56, of Lead passed away unexpectedly at her home on July 15, 2010.

Memorial services will be at 10:00 A.M. on July 23, 2010 at the Lead-Deadwood Memorial Chapel in Lead. Family and friends are invited to gather at the VFW in Deadwood following the service.

Betty was born on July 3, 1954 to Victor and Helen (Burkholtz) Berggren in Hopkins, MN. Betty moved to the Black Hills in 1976. In 1983 she married her best friend and soul mate Rick Whittington. Betty enjoyed reading, writing, her plants and watching the Chicago Bears.

Betty and Rick enjoyed camping, hiking, traveling and exploring the hills together. Betty lived well, laughted often and loved much.

Betty is survived by her loving husband Rick; mother Helen Berggren of MN; sisters Deb (Jim) Strain, of Rapid City, Cathy (John) Skvicalo of Lead and Sandy Berggren of MN; brother Terry (Beth-Alison) Berggren of MN; mother and father-in-law Yvonne and Dick; 9 nieces and nephews and a great-nephew. She was preceded in death by her father Vic.
