Betty L. Rogers, 89, of Lead, SD, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 25, 2019, at the Philip Health Services Hospital in Philip, SD.

Betty was born in Edmore, ND, a daughter of Henry and Inga (Strand) Askelson. She grew up in Edmore where she attended school, graduating from Edmore High School. Betty attended Moorhead State College in Moorhead, MN for two years. She met Wilbur Rogers, and the two were married in December of 1948.

Wilbur and Betty moved to Lead, SD where Wilbur worked for Homestake Gold Mine. Betty made Lead her home until her passing. Betty and Wilbur were lifetime members of Shepherd of The Hills Lutheran Church in Lead.

Betty was very active in her church over the years and served her community by volunteering her time and efforts. As a member of Shepherd of the Hills, Betty attended the Ladies Circle, Ladies Aid, quilting, directed a children's choir, and attended adult Sunday School. In the Lead community she was involved with Meals on Wheels, Lord's Cupboard and TOPS.

Betty loved her family and the Lord.

Those left to mourn her loss are her children, Tamara Lee, Edgemont, SD, Nancy (Kenny) Neville, Philip, SD, and Louis (Monica) Rogers, Shafter, TX; 15 Grandchildren, 29 Great-grandchildren, 5 Great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur; an infant daughter, Trudy Kay; her parents, Henry and Inga; sister, Gail Hook; son-in-law, Ron Lee Sr.; grandson, David Dirks; and great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Whitney.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 30, 2019, at Shepherd of The Hills Lutheran Church in Lead, SD. Interment will follow at 1:00 PM in Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
