Betty Lord, 75 of Spearfish died Saturday, November 24th 2007 surrounded by family at Spearfish Regional Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, December 15th 2007 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish, with Reverend Dar Berkenpas officiating. Condolences may be sent to the family of Betty Lord @ PO Box 314, Spearfish,SD 57783.
Betty was born on March 4th 1932 in Kittery, Maine to Robley and Natalie (Corthell) Swanton. She grew up in Maine and then moved to New Hampshire where she ran a diner for a short time before going to work for AT&T. She worked on an assembly line, building circuits. She worked her way up to being in charge of the line. She married Melvin Lord in 1985, the couple moved to Salem, NH, and spent the winters in St. Petersburg, FL. She spent the last year and a half in Spearfish. She first lived at her daughter's house and then at Burr's Tender Care Assisted Living, where she made many wonderful friends. Betty enjoyed arts & crafts, playing Bingo and putting puzzles together. She also liked going to horse races and gambling, especially on the slot machines.
Betty is survived by her two daughters, Catherine Colson of New Hampshire and Gail and her husband Dennis Harwood of Spearfish, one brother, Dick (Nancy) Swanton of New Hampshire, five grandchildren: Robert Merrow of Kansas, Carrie (Ron) Krupka of Spearfish, Scott (Sonja) Merrow of Saint Onge, Kendra Bastein of New Hampshire, Heather Drouin of Naples, Florida, four step-grandchildren; Allen Harwood of Spearfish, Jeremy (Renee) Harwood of Rapid City, Amanda (Chris) Fiddler of Sturgis and Brenda Chavez of Sturgis, and 20 great grandchildren: Daniel, Colton, Garrett, James, Natalie, Tyler, Dominie, Dennis, Alizabeth, Joseph, Seth, Kerbey, Wyatt, Kade, Ronnie, Mathew, Hope, Cruz, Ian and Maya.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, John Swanton, one son, Larry Drouin, and two husbands, Armand Drouin and Melvin Lord.
