Obituary

Betty Lou Franklin, 84, of Spearfish, passed away on Monday, August 16, 2010 at Dorsett Regional Senior Care in Spearfish.

Vigil services will be held at 7:00 P.M., Monday, August 23, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Spearfish.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at the church. Inurnment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to benefit your favorite charity.

Betty was born at home in Lead, South Dakota on March 21, 1926 to Matt and Margretta (Addicoat) Krilanovich. She graduated from Lead High School in January of 1944 with classmates that remained lifelong friends. In 1945, she joined the United States Cadet Nurse Corps, training at St. John McNamara Hospital in Rapid City, SD. Betty passed the State Board of Nursing Exam in 1948, becoming a Certified Registered Nurse. She worked at the Homestake Hospital in Lead, St. Joseph's Hospital in Deadwood, SD and for Dr. Reuben Trinidad as an office nurse in Deadwood for 17 years (the best job she ever had). In 1949 Betty married Emmett Franklin at St. Patrick's rectory in Lead.

Betty is survived by two sons, Ross (Kerry) Franklin of Bremerton, WA and Randy (Debra) Franklin of Brookings, SD, 6 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, sister, Charlotte Lakson of Spearfish, her cousin, Ann Krilanovich of San Francisco, CA, her sisters-in-law, Velma Larson of Pierre, SD and Chloa Franklin of Texarkana, TX and nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, sister, Phyllis and her parents.

Betty and her family especially thank Linda and Denny Egemo for their love, friendship and caring over the years.
