Betty Cracco, 89, passed away on May 17, 2017, at the Belle Fourche Healthcare Center.
Betty was born July 24, 1927 in Faith, SD to Carlos and Blanche (Lehman) Fees. She grew up on the family farm, attended grade school in the Opal area and graduated from Faith High School in 1945. She attended Black Hills State College for one year and received a Secretarial Degree. While attending Black Hills State College she met Bruno Cracco. They married on June 22, 1946 and made their home in Lead, SD. She was a homemaker and mother, worked as a part-time bookkeeper and was involved in many organizations. After her children were grown, Betty returned to Black Hills State College and received a degree in Elementary Education. For many years, after attaining her degree, she was a substitute teacher in the Lead-Deadwood School system.
Betty spent her spare time researching genealogy for her parent's families and completed her Father's family history to 1722. She was creative and loved any kind of craft from doing fancy-work, to painting, to making her own greeting cards. At holidays, her family looked forward to receiving her hand made cards.
She was a member of the Rapid City Society for Genealogical Research, Deadwood VFW Auxiliary Post 5969, TOPS Club in Spearfish and Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Lead.
Survivors include her children: James (Pat) Cracco of Boulder, CO and Jeri (Bob) Mykleby of Lead, SD; seven grandchildren: Bryce (Amity) Cracco, Briana Cracco, Brian Morrison, Todd (Marianna) Morrison, Marla Mykleby, Bob (Tiffanie) Mykleby, and Trina (Jason) Hagerty. She is also survived by ten great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carlos and Blanche Fees and her husband, Bruno.
Services will be Monday, May 22, 2017 at 11:00 am in the Lead-Deadwood Memorial Chapel in Lead, SD. Burial will be at 2:00 pm at the National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to benefit the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Cancer Aid & Research Fund.
