Betty Coffield, 81 of Spearfish, died Friday, January 6, 2012 at the Belle Fourche Healthcare Center.
Betty was born September 22, 1930 to John and Mary (Giannonatti) Welch in Chicago, IL. In 1932 she moved with her family to a ranch near Ludlow, SD. Growing up, she attended country schools and graduated from Buffalo High School in 1948. On June 10, 1948, Betty married Royce Coffield at Hill City, SD. Following their marriage they lived in Hill City, later moving to Nemo, where she was on the school board and in 1965 moved to Spearfish, where she lived until entering the Belle Fourche Healthcare Center.
During her years in Spearfish Betty was active in the VFW Auxiliary Post 5860, Republican Women, Queen City Eastern Star #89 and was a member of the Spearfish United Church of Christ. She also worked at the Black Hills Passion Play for over 20 years, many of those years; she was in charge of the women's wardrobe. She was married to Royce for 50 years, when he passed away in 1998.
Betty is survived by a daughter Lynn Kuhns, Aurora, CO, two sons Randy Coffield, Black Hawk, and Craig Coffield, Spearfish. She is also survived by four grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Mary Coffield and brother Jack Welch.
Visitation for Betty will be from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 AM Friday, January 13, 2012 at the United Church of Christ in Spearfish. Interment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.
