Obituary

Betty Coburn's contagious, enthusiastic and unforgettable love and laugh left us Sunday, January 8, 2017. The long time Deadwood community member, passed away with dignity and grace after suffering a stroke December 27. Her last days were spent with "her boys" and also talking and Face Timing with all her grandkids, great-grandkids, daughters-in-laws and two sisters on the phone and listening to her music. She was loved by all.

Betty came to Deadwood after marrying A.A. "Bud" Coburn in 1944. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Deadwood, and participated in many community service organizations throughout her 73 years in Deadwood including: Jacyeettes, Beta Sigma Phi, PEO, Chamber of Commerce member and board member, Lead-Deadwood Bridge Club, Bag Ladies, Deadwood You Bet Committee, Days of '76 participant as Calamity Jane and side saddle rider, "Swim Mom" for Deadwood/Lead swim team and Tomahawk Country Club member. She also loved playing bridge with Sonny Ondriezek, Margaret Ryan and Margaret Sulentic for over 40 years.

Betty lived a full, rich and shared life as the wife and partner to Bud, proud mother of her three boys and avid Deadwood contributor and supporter. Betty is best remembered as a loving wife, mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Betty's infectious smile could warm up any room or person.

The overwhelming love, sensitivity, compassion, and care provided by all made an inevitable but emotionally challenging process and event for Betty and her family a love filled, special, positive, and memorable chapter in each family member's life. The family also thanks Western Resources for Independent Living for their valuable Adult Day Care program, Golden Ridge Senior Care for the care and compassion she received as a resident of their facility and especially to Father Mike Johnson for his support and care for Betty and her family.
