Bernice I. Cepak, 89 of Spearfish died Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at the David m. Dorsett Healthcare Center in Spearfish.
Visitation will be from 3pm-6pm, Monday, October 12, 2015 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish.
Funeral services will be at 10am, Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Spearfish with burial to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.A memorial has been established to benefit Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Spearfish.
Bernice was born July 20, 1926 on the family farm near Finley, North Dakota to John and Bessie (Olson) Schwartz. She attended schools in that area and graduated from Finley High School in 1944 as valedictorian of her class. She married Albert Cepak on October 20, 1948 in Cooperstown, North Dakota. In 1949 they moved to Lead, South Dakota, where Albert worked for Homestake Gold Mine and she raised their three children. Bernice then attended Black Hills State College and earned a teaching degree. She taught in the Lead school system for 22 years. Bernice and Albert moved to Spearfish in 1985 following retirement. Bernice attended Our Saviors Lutheran Church, where she was active in the church quilting group for over 20 years, producing hundreds of quilts for charity.
Bernice is survived by son, Barry Cepak of Gillette, Wyoming, daughter, Maureen (Eric) Beals, Belle Fourche, South Dakota, son, Michael (Claudia) Cepak of Pierre, South Dakota, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, younger sister, Doris Christianson of Oakes, North Dakota, sister-in-law, Alice Webstad of Lakota, North Dakota and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; parents; and siblings, John, Kenneth, Eleanor and Ardelle.
