Bernard Thomas, 94, of Spearfish, passed away at his home on February 24, 2013.
Bernard John Thomas was born on February 12, 1919 to Ludwig and Theresa (Keller) Thomas in Verendrye, ND. He grew up at Glencross, SD and attended and graduated from Timber Lake High School in 1939. He served in the US Navy in the SW Pacific during World War II from 1942 to 1945. He married Dorothy Clara Reinbold on November 16, 1946 in Glencross. He worked as a carpenter for 20 years and Hearing Aid Sales with Bell Tone Hearing Aid Service for 20 years. They made their home in Rapid City until 1967, in Huron from 1967-1983, Tucson, AZ from 1983-1993, where they managed apartments. They then moved to Spearfish in 1993 and have been residents since that time.
Bernard is survived by his wife, Dorothy, Spearfish; daughters Jannette (Eddie) White, Milford, MA and Cynthia "Cindy" (Steve) Black, Windermere, FL; son, Thomas Dean Thomas, Spearfish; four grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Regina, Francis and Ida; and brothers, Ludwig, Wendolin and Albert.
Visitation will be from 6-7 P.M., Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at St Joseph Catholic Church in Spearfish with a Vigil service to follow at 7 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, February 28, at the church. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery with military honors by the Spearfish Honor Guard.
