Obituary

Barbara "Barb" Ann Howe, 79 of Spearfish died Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at Monument Health Hospital Spearfish.

Barb was born on April 3, 1945 at Mobridge, SD to Hiram Strong and Edna Joens.  She attended Spearfish High School, Black Hills State College and received her Bachelor's of Science in Nursing from SDSU in Brookings.  Barb had a lengthy nursing career and was the ICU nurse at Monument Health until her retirement at the age of 70.

Barb was an active member of the United Church of Christ in Spearfish.  She served as president of the UCC Women's Fellowship until her death, she also sang in the choir.   She was also a member of the Senior Citizens Center and enjoyed socializing with her fellow residents at Juniper Court.

Barb is survived by her daughter, Jeaneanne Buterbaugh; sons Patrick Howe, Andrew Howe, Christopher Howe, Matthew Howe and Steven Howe; sister Joyce Bruce; and enjoyed her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Stanley Howe, her parents, two sons,  two sisters and two brothers.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30pm, Friday, December 13, 2024 at the United Church of Christ in Spearfish with Pastor Randy Hedge officiating.  Lunch will follow the service.  Inurnment will take place at a later date where she will join her husband Stanley in the columbarium at Black Hills National Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the UCC Women's Fellowship.
