After a strong, courageous battle with cancer, Barbara Ann (Wolf) Haggberg, earned her set of wings on Saturday, March 27th, 2010 in Spearfish. She was surrounded by her loving family when she took her last breath.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to benefit Hospice of the Northern Hills.
Barb was born April 7th, 1956 to Robert and Creta (Moller) Wolf in Spearfish. She grew up in St. Onge, attending grade school. She continued her education in Spearfish.
For all who knew Barb, she had a very respectable reputation of being one of the most honest, fearless, strong willed, kind-hearted, hard working women around! She loved to bake, cook, clean, garden, be a wonderful Grandma and a care taker of everyone but herself. She was a wonderful daughter, mother, wife, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many.
Barb worked at several places in Spearfish through out her short life. Her baking and cooking talents found her working at several restaurants such as; The Brass Bull, Alice's Cafe, Luxury Lodge, The Country Hearth Cafe and also The Arro Cafe in Sundance. When the cancer started to cripple her, she made the heart-wrenching decision to "retire" from The Cedar House Restaurant in Spearfish, after several years of employment there. This was a very devastating decision for her. She was leaving what she had loved doing every day; baking those scrum-dilli-umcious pies, cookies and dinner rolls. She was leaving behind a very special boss, Beth Mathis, and wonderful co-workers that she had be-friended along the way.
Many of us will dearly miss being welcomed into Barb's home, with the smell of something baking in the oven or a delectable dish cooking for dinner, to share. You may as well "start your diet tomorrow," when visiting Barb. She was very well known for being the "food pusher!" Besides her passion for being in the kitchen, she loved to clean. She was antiseptically clean- her house never had a dust bunny! She grew the most beautiful flowers in the summer and had a green thumb for all the plants in her house as well. She had two wonderful granddaughters that she adored, and there was no place she would rather be, but spending time with them. She was more then just the "stereo-typical" grandmother. Much more! She had a very special "bond" with them and they loved her to the moon and back.
Barb was also the greatest mother of all time, hands down to her only daughter, Melissa. Her strong will and fearless demeanor raised her daughter as a single parent. She was very humble and didn't like to be recognized as the "hero" that she truly was. She was a very hard worker and never complained. Barb's stature was very small, but often reminded people that "dynamite comes in small packages!" She taught Melissa to spread her wings and fly, to be your own person, stand up for what you believe and not care what others thoughts are. In 1992 she met Dan Haggberg. They married in 1994, this was one of the most joyous days of her life. They were a fun couple and became wonderful parents and grandparents together. She loved to laugh, have fun and poke fun!! She filled the room with funny stories and honest opinions.
She will be missed by so many. When we wake up to a sunny day, smell the aroma of fresh carmel rolls baking, hear a good ZZ Top song, have a butterfly flutter upon when we least expect it ...we will think of Barb.
A very special "thank you" to the Hospice Staff. Carrie, her nurse was loved by Barb, she enjoyed her weekly visits. Another special "thank you" to Meagan, and Karen with Hospice as well. You are all earthly angels. God Bless.
