Barbara Allen, 89 of Deadwood, passed away suddenly on October 31 st and joined her husband Mel of 68 years. She followed him by only 30 days after his death.
Barbara was born and raised in Deadwood, SD. She spent her whole life making a career and a family in her beloved Deadwood.
Barb graduated from Deadwood High School in 1947. She and Mel were married August of 1950. She was the office manager for Black Hills Novelty in Deadwood for over 25 years. She proudly served as the only female Mayor of Deadwood from 1995 to 2001.
Barb volunteered and served in various organizations throughout her life. She participated in Eastern Star, PEO, Deadwood Bag Ladies, St John's Guild and the Thursday and Friday Bridge Clubs. She also served on the Deadwood Historic Preservation Committee and other civic groups.
The true joy of Barb's life was her family. Her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her primary focus. She will be greatly missed by all.
Barb is preceded in death by her husband Mel, brother Tom Shedd, father Clarence Shedd and mother Mabel Cadwallder.
She is survived by an older brother, Jim (Marilyn) Shedd, Deadwood; son, David (Toni) Allen, Billings, MT; son, Ken (Michelle) Allen, Deadwood; grandson, Jesse (Tessa) Allen, Deadwood; grandson, Nathan (Christine) Allen, Lead; grandson, Garrison Allen, Bozeman, MT; grandson, Logan Allen, Bozeman MT; great-granddaughters, Shea and Maci Allen, Deadwood.
Memorial services will be at 10 AM on Monday, November 5 at St John's Episcopal Church in Deadwood. A reception will follow at the Deadwood VFW Club. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church.
