Obituary

Audrey Ann Ladson, 63 of Spearfish, SD passed away from some medical conditions on Wednesday February 12, 2025.

Audrey was born in Billings, Montana on September 6, 1961 to Beverly Jean Steele and Norman Alvin Ladson. They moved in spring of 1964 from Billings to Spearfish, off of Maitland Road to grandma's house. In December of 1969 they moved to Hermosa, SD. She finished grade school in Hermosa and completed 8th grade. She worked in Rapid City, SD at the age of 14 to pay for Grand Torino and her horse that she so loved. At the age of 18 she met Ron Johnson and she had her first daughter (Charlotte), at the age of 19 in 1981. In 1982 she had her second daughter (Collette).  After her house fire in the winter of 1984/1985, she moved to Valdez, Alaska, she then met Larry Robison. They moved to Belle Fourche, SD and within a year moved to Sarasota, Florida. In 1987 her third daughter (Samantha) was born. On July 4th1988, Audrey married Larry Robison. In 1992 she divorced Larry and fell in love with the love of her life Gary Cox. They never married, but were together until he passed. In Alaska she lived in Valdez during the oil spill and eventually moved to Big Lake, Houston, Talketna, Wasilla, and Seward. The grass was always greener somewhere else. She had the opportunity to take her three girls to Walt Disney World. Audrey didn't have an easy life, but she made the most of it. She was a fighter and spit fire!

In early spring of 2000 she called her mother and said she was moving back home to South Dakota, she would see her soon. Audrey was in a rehabilitation center. She had a friend come pick her up with an alias ID card. She then stole her truck back from the gal who stole it from her. She repainted it, filed a lost title and sold it. She took the money and bought herself a plane ticket back home to South Dakota. Her mother said to her brother Rocky, "she was as every bit as good, as she was bad." In 2002, she was incarcerated again in South Dakota, in which they found she had fled from the state of Alaska and still had pending time to serve in Alaska. Alaska did not want her back ever again in their state and dropped the charges.

Audrey worked multiple jobs and never did just one job. She was a jack of all trades. She loved being of service to anyone. She also didn't have a problem with giving directions to anyone who just sat around. Even if she wasn't the boss, she truly was the one. She owned and refurbished 9 homes. No project was too big or small! She was a plant enthusiast, and loved traveling with her girls. She was always very expressive and led by her heart, and always moved quickly with her gypsy toes! She enjoyed being the life of the party and was very animated about her stories of her life. She also enjoyed her birthdays, camping up at Iron Creek with family and friends. She enjoyed calling her Uncle John and asking him to help her with another project. She enjoyed cracking jokes with the Millstone staff and always had a story to tell. She also loved watching the Golden Girls with her daughters, always stating that we were the Golden Girls.
