Arvilla Joyce (Brovald) Ostby, 80, Spearfish, SD

Arvilla Joyce (Brovald) Ostby went to be with the Lord on August 27, 2011 surrounded by her loving family.

Arvilla was born on February 27, 1931 in Victor, SD to Arthur and Nettie (Sparby) Brovald. She attended grade-school in Paloma, ND and graduated from Rosholt High School in Rosholt, SD in 1949. Arvilla married the love of her life, Soren Gilbert Ostby, on June 18, 1949 in Rosholt, SD. They were married for 62 years and were blessed with six daughters, Janis Rae, Sandra Kay, Deborah Fay, Gayleen Mae, Jolleen Jae and Dela Rae. Soren and Arvilla moved their family to Hauber Mine in 1958. They later moved to Hulett, WY in 1963 where they continued to live until 2004, at which time they moved to Spearfish, SD.

Arvilla worked beside Soren running their many businesses in Hulett, which included S&A Café, The Rodeo Bar, S & A Supply, S & A Campground, S & A Plumbing & Back-Hoe Company , and S & A Auction. Arvilla enjoyed embroidering, doing crossword puzzles, playing cards and games, and staying connected with friends and family via Facebook and email. She was also a member of the Spearfish Senior Center. Arvilla's greatest enjoyment of all was the time she had with her family. Arvilla was quick-witted and always ready to laugh and joke. She was compassionate and had a heart full of love. She was always available to lend a kind word or a helping hand.

Arvilla was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and is survived by her husband Soren Ostby of Spearfish, SD; Her daughters Janis Ostby Mallory of Lead, SD, Sandy (Claude) Rauch of Hulett, WY, Gayleen (Ron) Raber of Belle Fourche, SD, Jolleen (Larry) Knapp of Belle Fourche, SD and Dela (Ted) Bears of Hulett, WY; her brothers, Kurt Brovald of Milbank, SD, Jimmie Brovald of Las Vegas, NV, and sister Delores Quall of Las Vegas, NV; 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Nettie Brovald; brothers Dennis and Kenny Brovald; daughter Debbie Vincent and granddaughter Stacy Marynik.

Funeral Services for Arvilla will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, September 1, 2011 at the Greater Hulett Community Center in Hulett, WY, with Reverend Randy Fowler officiating. Burial will follow in the Hulett Cemetery.

Memorials to the Hulett Fire Department and the Greater Hulett Community Center have been established.
