Arthur Prosper, 92, died Sunday, July 1, 2012 at the David M. Dorsett Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, July 5, 2012 at the Spearfish United Methodist Church with Rev. Gordon Higgins officiating. Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery, Spearfish.
Arthur was born January 7, 1920 at Worcester, MA to Frank and Grace Prosper. He grew up in Detroit, MI. He was drafted into the Army in November, 1941 and met his wife, Jane, while stationed in Little Rock, AR. He served in WWII from 1942 to 1945. He married Jane after returning on February 9, 1946.
Arthur received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of Michigan and a Doctorate from the University of Virginia. He moved to Spearfish in 1960 and worked as a professor at BHSU until 1988. He was active in many civic organizations throughout his life. He received International Distinguished Service Awards from both Kiwanis and Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, children Judy (Doug) DeNio, Columbus, NE; Bob (Jacki) Prosper, Aberdeen, SD; Mary (Randy) Neu, Pueblo West, CO; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Arthur was preceded in death by his son, Thomas and sister, Ursula.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for United Methodist Church, Spearfish and Black Hills State University, Spearfish.
