Arthur "Art" Wesley Morrison was born January 22, 1937, in Ekalaka, Montana to Robert and May "Wright" Morrison. Art was a wonderful Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather. His greatest love was his grandkids and great grandkids
He was a proud Veteran who served active-duty United States Air Force from July 1954-February 1958. He served 8 months of that time in Korea during the Korean War. He then went on to the South Dakota National Guard 842 Nd Engineer Co. August 1974-August 1992 Retiring as a Sargent First Class. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 31 in Lead and a member of the VFW Post 5969 in Deadwood.
Art married Mildred "Millie" Morrison on June 6, 1969, in Jamestown, ND. They went on to have two sons Dan and Robert Morrison. They made their home in Lead where he worked for Homestake Mining Company for 20 years. After he retired from Homestake he went on to work at Golddiggers Casino and Super 8 Hotel and Casino. He was a people person and enjoyed visiting with everyone he met.
Art enjoyed bowling and even more enjoyed coaching youth bowling, he coached many kids in the Lead-Deadwood area. He was always the first one to volunteer to help with tournaments for the kids. He enjoyed hunting and fishing always looking forward to deer hunting in the Black Hills with the boys and his brothers, he had many opportunities to fill his tag, but still, today has not filled a Black Hills Buck tag. Art enjoyed working with many wood projects with Millie doing the artwork and later in years painting birdhouses and other items for the great-grandkids. He enjoyed staying busy outdoors at Golden Ridge taking care of all the outside plants and his small garden.
Art enjoyed watching sports but never really had a favorite sports team. One of his greatest loves was watching his brothers, kids, grandkids and great-grandkids play sports and in the most recent summers, he enjoyed watching his grandson BJ drag race and his great-grandkids Cyler and Aubree flat track race as he cheered them on with a smile on his face and always looked forward to the next event.
Art is survived by his sons Dan (Shanon) and Bob (JuliAnn); grandchildren BJ (Angie), Kyle (Amanda), Preston (Amanda), Makayla (Seth), Tallen (Felicity), Tyler, Amanda (Dustin), Kate and Ryan;
great-grandchildren Cyler and Greysin Reynolds, Jaxson, Aubree, Emilie, Dakota, Owen, Ahszlyn Morrison and Colin, Xavier & Bryce Stevens; brothers Jack, Bill, Curtis, Jan and sisters Betty Ann, Arlene, Maxine, Joni and Jane.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Mille, son Virgil and his sisters Roberta, Romona, and Lynn, brothers Al Clay,and Larry Lee,
A Celebration of Life service will be Thursday, January 5, 2023, at 10:00 am at the Lead-Deadwood Memorial Chapel in Lead, inurnment will follow at 12:00pm with full military detail at Black Hills National Cemetery and a luncheon will follow at the VFW Post 5969 in Deadwood.
To honor Art, the family asks that in lieu of flowers donations can be made in Art's honor to either the Lead-Deadwood 49's Youth Football & Cheer teams or the Lead-Deadwood Soccer Association. Cards can be sent to 1817 Fulton Street, Sturgis, SD 57785.
