Former long time resident of Spearfish, South Dakota Arlene Edith Danielson Peterson passed away in Idaho Falls, Idaho on May 28, 2010. She had been living with her sister Victoria Goodman in Idaho Falls for five years after her husband Norman died on July 19, 2004.
Arlene Edith was born on December 28, 1916 in Odebolt, Iowa to John Robert and Esther Agnes Victoria Ahlstrom Skarin. Two years after she was born, she lost her birth father in the Spanish Flu epidemic of 1918.
She gained a new "Daddy Danielson" on February 19,1925 when her mother and Daniel Ephraim Danielson were married.
Arlene went to school in Upsala, Minnesota and Hitchcock, South Dakota.
She married Norman Ferdinand Peterson on May 11, 1942 in Riverside, California where they made their home while Norman was stationed at March Field Air Force Base during World War II.
One daughter, Norma Arlene Peterson was born in Huron, South Dakota on June 30, 1946. She lived for a short sixteen years, dying of renal failure on January 15, 1963.
Arlene was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Spearfish, South Dakota.
Arlene was Manager of the Warehouse at Kress Dime Store in Riverside, California for two years, and in the custodial department of Spearfish Public Schools for eighteen years before retiring in 1981.
The first few years after retiring, she and Norman enjoyed traveling to California in the winter months and visiting family in various parts of the country. Later, ill health caused them to stay close to home in Spearfish.
Survivors include a brother, Wendell Danielson, Hitchcock, South Dakota, two sisters, Lois (Bernie) Keefe, Denver, Colorado, and Victoria Goodman, Idaho Falls, Idaho, a brother-in-law Clifford Peterson, Webster, South Dakota, five nieces, Esther (Gordon) Curtis, Annabelle (Jerry) Timmer, Clarice (Jerry) Nelson, Marjorie (Dave) Cain, and Jane (Lee) Svatos, three nephews, Frederick (Judy) Amundson, Robert (Karen) Goodman and Roger (Sue) Goodman.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Spearfish, burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church.
