Arlene Nicholas, 92, of Spearfish, passed away on July 10, 2013 at the Rapid City Regional Hospice House.
Arlene Dorothy Roth Nicholas was born May 13, 1921 at Lake Mary Township, near Alexandria, MN to Edward & Clara Roth. The family moved to Bison, SD in the 1930's. The Roth's then moved to Rapid City, and subsequently to Spearfish (Upper Valley Rd). They moved to the Crow Peak area west of Spearfish. Arlene graduated from Spearfish High School in 1939, and attended Black Hills State College for three years. She met Arthur Nicholas and they married on September 3, 1942. They lived on a ranch west of Crow Peak. Arlene enjoyed her family and friends, flower gardening, and baking. She was a long time member of the Crow Peak Extension Club and Bridge Club.
In 2007 Arlene entered the David M Dorsett Healthcare Center and resided there until her passing at the Rapid City Regional Hospice House. She is survived by two sons, Donavon and Duane (Marlene) of Spearfish, SD and grandson, Justin (Rachel) Nicholas of Omaha, NE. She is preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Merrill Roth; her infant son, Robert; her parents, Edward & Clara Roth; a sister, Margaret Roth Jaehn; and her husband, Arthur Nicholas.
Arlene requested that there be no funeral services. She will be interred at Rose Hill Cemetery in Spearfish, SD. A memorial has been established to the Hospice Houses of the Black Hills.
Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Crematory Service of Spearfish.
